So now give me this hill country!
Вокруг нас столько вещей, которые повергают нас в отчаяние и разочарование. Но ищите благодати, что превыше любых обстоятельств. Не отчаивайтесь, когда увидите Голиафа или Иерихонскую крепость впереди. “А Давид отвечал Филистимлянину: ты идешь против меня с мечом и копьем и щитом, а я иду против тебя во имя Господа Саваофа, Бога воинств Израильских, которые ты поносил;
So now give me this hill country!
In Joshua 14, Caleb asks Joshua, “Give me now this hill country,” when he was 85 years old.
“So now give me this hill country of which the LORD spoke on that day, for you heard on that day how the Anakim were there, with great fortified cities. It may be that the LORD will be with me, and I shall drive them out just as the LORD said.” (Joshua 14:12)
Why did Caleb ask for Hebron, the land of the mountains? There was good reason for Caleb's request to inherit the land of Hebron. Because the land was promised to Caleb 45 years ago. When the spies searched the land of Canaan, they came to Hebron (Numbers 13:22). And when the ten spies reported that it is impossible to conquer the land of Canaan, Caleb said that he could do it and stood on God's side. Then, God promised Caleb saying that He would bring him to the land he had gone to and that he would possess it (Numbers 14:24). So when Caleb asked Joshua to inherit the land of Hebron, he said it was “the land the Lord spoke of on that day” (Joshua 14:12). In other words, the land of Hebron is already the land that God had promised to Caleb. Even though the land of Hebron was full of great descendants of Anak, he had the confidence and faith that he would be able to defeat and conquer them because it was already the promised land to be given to him. Although he was 85 years old, his hope and faith in the promised land that God had given him remained the same as when he was young.
What is the hill country that God has given us? That hill country will be the kingdom of God. It is the vision that God has given to each of us. The hill country must be ‘God’s will that He wants to accomplish through me’. However, it should not be acquired free of charge without any sacrifice or effort, but must be acquired through struggle and effort. Caleb fought for 45 years to conquer the land of Canaan. What do we need to do to take the hill country? Just like Caleb, it is faith that believes in the Word of God.
“So now give me this hill country of which the LORD spoke on that day, for you heard on that day how the Anakim were there, with great fortified cities. It may be that the LORD will be with me, and I shall drive them out just as the LORD said.” (Joshua 14:12). Caleb declares in faith that, because God gave a promise, no matter how many Anak descendants and how large and strong a city is, because God is with them, he can drive them out and conquer them. Trust that God's promises will surely come true. Believe that God's vision will surely come true.
What we need today is to conquer the hill country God has given us, that is, to achieve the vision of the kingdom of God and the church (save souls and make disciples). To do this, we must not lose heart, do not look at the environment, and hold on to the word of promise and move forward strong and boldly. Please continue forward. In the hill country, there are strong castles and large and powerful descendants. However, we must look to God who is bigger than those enemies. We must seek the grace and power of the Lord to subdue them.
There are so many things around us that discourage us and depress us. But seek the grace that transcends circumstances. Never be discouraged when you see Goliath or see the city of Jericho. "David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.
All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give all of you into our hands.”(1 Samuel 17:45, 47) Like David, proclaim by faith! Do not forget the words that God gave to the people of Israel who are moving toward the promised land and the land of vision. What is the word that God repeats here? “Be strong and courageous, for you shall cause this people to inherit the land that I swore to their fathers to give them.”(Joshua 1:6)
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go” (Joshua 1:9) We are living in a very difficult time in the pandemic, but we are not alone. The Holy Spirit is with us, and the promise that God has given us will surely come true.
Therefore, please not be too discouraged, but let’s march forward with the Lord in power and with courage to conquer and take the hill country!
